1Cover Travel Insurance
1Cover Travel Insurance is underwritten by
Allianz, the largest Underwriter of Travel Insurance in Australia and is the
worlds third largest Insurance Company.
Travel insurances can usually be arranged at the time of booking of a trip to
cover exactly the duration of that trip or a more extensive, continuous
insurance can be purchased from (most often) insurance companies or banks, which
covers all travelling during the period for which the insurance was obtained.
The most common costs that are covered by travel insurances are:
- trip cancellation
- trip interruption
- travel delay
- baggage and personal effects
- baggage delay
- emergency evacuation
- travellers assistance
- medical expense

Reviews from Product Review Website
October 3rd, 2009
Pros: the price was great the site easy to navigate, and an instant policy sent
out, backed by an email. just great
Cons: cons
Overall: doubt if any insurer will beat you for price , cover, and ease of
ordering, so thanks for making it easy for me
September 25th, 2009
Pros: Insurance when you are travelling for 3 months can be very expensive. I
find TID and Allianz is very reasonable and gives me good coverage on likely
contingencies
Cons: Buying my policy was easy but I have not tested the claiming procedure
yet. So far I do not have any Cons to comment on
Overall: After getting quotes from several travel insurance providers I was
delighted to find a policy that would cover my age group and still be at a
budget price. I can now relax knowing that I am protected for any losses if my
holiday goes wrong.
September 25th, 2009
Pros: We were the only people in our tour group whose insurance covered strikes
and civil unrest. Consequently we were reimbursed for out of pocket expenses
while others who paid much more for their insurance were left out of pocket.
Cons: None
Overall: We have purchased CoverMore insurance a number of times but on our
recent trip to South America we decided to use your TID instead. It was the
first time we have had to make a claim and we were very pleased with the service
we received. I am travelling again shortly and will certainly be using TID. I
will not hesitate to recommend TID to anyone who is travelling.
September 25th, 2009
Pros: Simple to use website and at the right price. Policy is compact, easy to
understand. Allianz back up is reassuring.
Cons: No emergency contact in Japan
Overall: I will definitely be using Travel Insurance Direct next time I travel.
Luckily we didn't need to claim but I felt confident given their excellent
customer service.
September 23rd, 2009
Pros: A cheap price isn't quite so important when your Travel Insurance is only
as good as the help you get when you are in trouble overseas. Mind you, TID was
still the best value of any I compared.
Cons: None
Overall: Absolutely amazing when things went wrong for me and my family - cannot
recommend them highly highly enough. They delivered when we absolutely needed
it!
September 20th, 2009
Pros: Easy to purchase online
Cons: Slow processing of claim. My son left his Ipod on the airplane on the way
to the States. When trying to claim when he got back to Australia, the claim was
delayed several times by them requesting "additional information" which required
him to call the US to again check if his Ipod had been handed in. After waiting
over two months, he claim was finally settled for the grand total of $39. This
for an Ipod and head phones which cost him over $400. Depreciation over two
years: 60%. Didn't even cover the cost of the policy. Lesson here for him, it
was not worth his while to even purchase the insurance.
Overall: Has to better plans out there. Ensure you read the fine print. Was told
the whole claim process would be easy, but overall, was not worth the effort.
September 10th, 2009
Pros: Paid my 1000 Euro accident excess no worries!!
Cons: Not a dislike, but make sure you collect all the correect documents for
your claim!!
Overall: Real easy to use, and by far the cheapest for our age of 55. After
being a bit concerned about insuring online, they paid no problems! why pay more
elsewhere??
September 9th, 2009
Pros: Twenty six countries down and the rest of the world to see, and I've only
ever used Travel Insurance Direct. The coverage is comprehensive, it's
underwritten by Allianz so you know you're not dealing with a fly-by-night
operator, and the premiums are the most competitive out there!
Cons: Always having to answer questions from fellow travellers (who usually just
go with whatever product Flight Centre flogs to them) about whether you can
"trust" an online purveyor of insurance.
Overall: I'm a firm believer in the maxim that if you can't afford travel
insurance, you can't afford to travel. I'm also a firm believer in getting the
best bang for your buck. With Travel Insurance Direct, you can have both - and
walk through train stations in Naples, drive the Swiss Alps and boat on Halong
Bay in Vietnam without fear!
September 4th, 2009
Pros: great value for money, instant quote, easy to navigate
Cons: nil
Overall: This is a quick and easy way to get insured, the site is so easy to
navigate and understand that there is no need to speak to a consultant, offering
more information on cover then any other site I looked into.

Travel Insurance - Tips from AFTA
Don't leave photographic equipment, mobile phones, personal computers or
other valuables unattended, or in a vehicle at any time. Rental cars in
particular are clear targets for thieves.
Prepare physically for your trip.
If you are heading for a high altitude destination, some exercise is called for.
Even carrying heavy luggage can be a problem if you are not accustomed to this
type of exertion. Take particular care, especially if you are elderly or have a
medical condition and may be affected by a stressful schedule or a change in
diet. Delayed or rescheduled flights can disrupt holiday plans. Reconfirm travel
arrangements well in advance to ensure that you don't miss your flight, or to
utilise any extra time allowed.
Can you prove what you purchased?
Your travel insurance cover starts as soon as you leave home for your journey.
Make sure you keep proof of ownership of any goods purchased, such as a duty
free camera, and keep the receipt separate from the goods. This will make any
claim much easier to document and make it easier for the insurance company to
pay your claim. Remember you will need to prove any claim against your Travel
Insurance Policy. In most cases this will mean showing how and/or why a
disrupting event occurred and being able to supply verification of the value of
the claim.
Travel insurers require "reasonable" proof of loss and of the events leading up
to them. So if your camera is lost or stolen in a small village in the Pyrenees
you must report the loss to the local police and obtain a police report. It is
much easier to get this report at the time rather than waiting until you return
to Australia.
It is up to you to look after your belongings. Insurance companies will not
cover loss where travellers have not taken "responsible" steps to protect their
property. For example when you are making a telephone call from an airport or
railway station, make sure your baggage is beside you and is in sight at all
times.

unable to perform your normal work in Australia. This limit is increased up to
